Because I will do my share of single handed sailing, I have started reading about how the experts do it. I came across a thread about spinlocks. I don't understand how they worK? A flick of the wrist and they release? Can someone shed some light on how these work and how will they aid in singlehandling. If you use these items I would love to hear how you are set up and how you use them.

There are a couple threads that talk about different numbers of the spinlocks for the gib and one for the main sheet that seem to be several years old. Can someone give me those up to date product numbers.

I'm two weeks away from picking up my boat and I'm getting motivated!

Thanks,

Shanker.

I assume you're talking about line clutches. Spinlock is a manufacturer of these. They are normally used for halyards, travelers, reefing lines. The lines run through them and when the lever is in the down position they prevent the line from loosening. To release the line, you simply raise the lever. I would think your H26 came with them for your halyards?!?

I use Spinlock PXR Camcleats on my 23.5.I installed swivel model where cleat was.To adjust just pull up on line, adjust headsail,to lock just pull down on line.60 years old, solo Lake Michigan, best investment I made on boat.

Diitto to DJN51, put mine on about 8 years ago, I'm now and makes single handling easier, + a tiller tamer and a new IDA rudder. You don't use them for the main sheet just the jib sheets

FYI, the PX0812 recommended to replace the horn cleats on the H260 have been discontinued. I emailed spinlock and they say the PXR0810 is the replacement, but the holes alignment is different though it will cover the old holes.
I really need to go with spinlocks but I'm not at all excited about drilling holes in my boat.

Subline,Check out Rick Webb,s Mod this site.I raised my Spinlocks off the deck as his mod with teak spacers.Help with leverage and made big enough to cover old holes. There should be a alum Plate in deck so need to be drilled and tapped.Good Luck,I know you,ll love them.

I did something very similar to DJN51. I didn't want to put any new holes in my boat either. I had a couple pieces of aluminum made. They are rectangular in shape 3/4in thick and about the size of the spinlock. There are two smooth holes that match up to the holes that are already in the deck and two threaded holes that match the spinlock. First you attach the mounts to the deck with the cleat bolts, then you bolt down the spinlock. Works out pretty well. I went to a bit of trouble and expense, but there aren't any new holes in my boat and I have a very strong connection. Also, in the unlikely event that the spinlocks break, I can put a cleat back on.
