I have just purchased a 17' Spindrift Daysailor and have a few questions about the rigging of the keel . The line to the keel does not seem to work and the keel wont move . Where can I get information or a diagram that would help me fix this ?
My first boat was a 17' Spindrift - brand new - had the same problem. Turns out that the centerboard was defective and "blew up" inside the housing and would not move. Of course, this was not determined until the first attempt to sail her, which resulted in a very funny story. As I remember, the way it's rigged is straight forward: a pivot pin in the top forward corner of the board and a "crank" type of arrangement to raise and lower it. The dealer had to order a new board.
Another thing about that boat: it always leaked water at the gasket for the centerboard crank fitting.
Had lots of fun on the boat and it was a very good sailor.
Not sure what "line" you found, as captainpat says, the CB on the DS I is operated by a lever. There may (or may not?) be a small wedge-shaped latch that holds the CB up, it will be on the plate holding hte lever in place, to lower CB first push lever forward slightly, then pivot the latch out of the way and the lever can be pivoted aft to lower the CB.
If your boat has a line, it is an owner installed modification. Any pictures??
