I'm new to sailing and have learned on a McGregor 26 and Lagoon 38. However I am looking to buy an inexpensive boat for a small lake the my kids can use etc. looking at a good price on a Spindrift 17 day sailer. My question is, how many people can comfortable sail on this. It appears to be 2 maybe 3. Can you sail with four adults on one. Want to give and get lessons with the three kids, but they are over 150lbs.

O'DAY used to say that the Day Sailer could seat 6 persons (165# ea.) I would say the DS II would be OK with 4 adults, the DS I (like your Spindrift) might be comfortable with 5-6, but I think 4 is a better group. The DS I would have a bit more room in hte cockpit than my DS II, but I have comfortably had 3 adults while sailing or 2 adults and 2 children.
