Spinaker

Hi John

I keep each end of my spinnaker halyard on each cap shroud athwartships.
This keeps it totally out of the way of the furling gear. The clip end goes
on the starboard cap shroud chainplate and the loose (bitter) end goes and
ties on the port cap shroud chainplate.

Hello all,

Would appreciate some suggestions on how to keep a roller furling head
sail from wrapping up the spinaker halyard.
For the last several years we have had a Harkin roller furling head sail
which has been a real delight to use. Last year we decided to get the
spinaker out of the attic and get operational. The problem, we quickly
discovered, is that the rotating aluminum housing at the top of the head
sail snags the spinaker halyard and wraps it around the fore stay. We
tried using a short 15" wire tether between the spinaker block and the
mast top mount with limited success. We are thinking about a longer
tether (24") but thought we would ask the group before we "pave the
cowpath".

I assume this means one would attach the halyard to the lowers which are
towards the rear of the boat. This means we would have to leave those white
things off. Also, what would we do with the extra halyard on the side which
you raise the sail with?

You just connect each end to the bottom of the chainplates. Mine has a
plastic cover and I just lift the covers enough to attch the ends. All very
simple and works...
