I have a legend 37.5 and use an asymmetrical spinnaker with the ATN tacker and a sock. It is a joy to use and sail with. Takes me about 5 minutes to run the sheets through the blocks, connect the halyard, and hoist!

Spinnaker up on a calm day:

Went sailing with my uncle and used the spinnaker throughout the trip (we sailed all the way home under spinnaker):

Messing around with my kids on deck with the spin:

My philosophy is to have fun while sailing, and keep it fun for all on board, which is why i use an asym, sock, etc. It's easy, useful, and fun, and my heart fills with joy when the spinnaker is out.

Nice vids Ben.

Protip: Sheets with SS shackles are for symmetrical spinnakers. Asyms sheets should not have shackles and always be tied to the clew (or clewline) with bowlines.

Thanks for looking, and you have a keen eye. From my days on a15 ft Mutineer, I am always worried about a broach. The snap shackles are for my sanity to be able to depower in an instant. Although, I don't fly the spin over 8 knots true wind.

That's why spinnaker sailing is referred to as "sailing just under a catastrophe". ;)

Hey,

Are you racing or cruising? Sailing short handed or fully crewed? It makes a big difference.

Hey,

For short handed cruising, if I had the budget I would get an assym on a furler. I would add one of the extendable bowsprit poles from Selden or so, and have at it. if I didn't have the budget for that (and I don't) I would get an assym in a sock.

Good luck,
Barry
