My new to me Hunter 30 did not have a spinnaker. I know very little about them, but I am considering keeping the spinnaker from my Tanzer 26 and using it on the Hunter.

My question is will it work on the larger boat or do I have to purchase one for the Hunter?

Thanks,

Woody

You can fly a Tanzer 26 spinnaker on your Hunter 30. It will work, but not as well as one made for your 30. I flew a Tanzer 26 spinnaker on my Hunter 28. It worked as well as it could and was fun to fly.
I now have an asymmetrical spinnaker built for my boat and enjoy flying it even more than I did when I had the Tanzer spinnaker.

Woody, your Hunter 29 is probably a tall rig set-up, which means the mast is way taller than your Tanzer 26. As the others have said it will work but never to your satisfaction. Best to sell the Tanzer 26 spinnaker and find one for your Hunter 29. That's what I did when I went from my 28.5 to my 34. Never regretted it.

The right sail cut is always going to be the best. For places (or times) when the sail is being used in little to no wind, then there no such thing as too much. Our asym is significantly larger than the sailmaker thought we should do, but given the conditions it's used in, it's just about perfect.

Try the one you have before you decide. Maybe it's too small, but maybe it's just right for what you are comfy with.

Cheers
Gary

Thank you all for the replies. My mast is 44' high and I guess my spinnaker would not be that efficient. I'll have to start shopping for the proper size sail.
