Spinaker Sock Gybe

Do you always have to sock an asym. spinaker on the same side as the side you launch it on? For example, say you initially set the sail on the port side, and then gybe so that the sail is on starboard. Now if I remember correctly, the sock retrieval line will be over forestay/jib halyard/etc. So in order to pull the sock down, should you a)walk the retrieval line around the front so that it is on starboard, b)gybe and the sock (whick may be next to impossible in close quarters), c) pull down on the line on the port side (forcing the spinaker to come back over the forestay, or d) sail into the houseboat?

I did this...to solve that....

I attached the sock downhaul line to the same fitting that is used to snap the tack (downhaul?) line to the bottom of the spinnaker. Then, when the sail is gybed, the sock downhaul line goes with it. Plus, then it's one less loose line to deal with when setting up or taking down the chute, as it's already where it belongs.

Bruce, please explain more

So does that mean that you retrieval line is out on the bow pulpit? Does it ever get wrapped on the furled jib when gybing?
