We recently purchased a 1995 42 Passage and brought her down from Long Island to Annapolis. Due to the light air in the bay during the summer, I want to fit her with a cruising spinaker. Given this will be my first experience with this sail, please offer me your experience and suggestions. Sailmakers will tell you most anything to get your business..

Crusing Spinaker - Yes

We had a P-42 (1994) on the bay. We bought a (new) crusing (asymitical) spinaker with a sock. We bought it from UK-Allen Sailmakers in Annapolis. It worked great. We usually flew the spinaker with out the main. With the main up 2/3 we could get some extra speed (if we wanted or needed it) but if all the way up, it had a tendancy to block the wind from the spinaker. Once you get use to it, (5-6 times), it is easy, so easy with an autopilot you can fly it by yourself. We have taken our spinaker to our 450. This is a fun sail to fly. You also get to color design it. Have fun!
