If we took up a collection, can we please get a spell checker added to the HOW?

Cut & Paste?

Add a spell checker? Seems to me that would be a difficult proposition on a site like this- I don't think there are any <spell> or </spell> tags in HTML...) However, if your spelling is that bad (or, if you're like me, your typing!), you may consider composing your posts in a word processor and then cutting and pasting them to HOW. This would probably be easier and faster than making HOW do it. --J

There'an app you need

Yep, there's no online spell checker that I know of... at least, not one that'll work with our server. But there is an application called Spell Catcher that will spell check *anything* in any application... even a textarea box you're typing in on HOW. It's fairly reasonable and come sin versions for Mac and windows.

Knead a spill chukka!!

Event a spill chukka wont ketch sum errs! BTW, the title and preceding sentence passed MS Word's spellchecker with flying colours! No -- I didn't dare attempt the grammar checker. Hippie Hollandaise (or was that Happy Holidays)! Paul

I'm not impressed!

Let me see if I got this right. A noticable percentage of the population is communicating 'on line' using desk top systems driven by Uncle Bill's Microsoftware all of which has a resident spell checkers and our best symtom over problem solution is 'cut-n-past'? In my other life we run world wide interactively within several packages spell checkers flying! (I'm an aerospace program management type)

Cut and paste explained

This works for most any CO-based applications. You may find this a bit clunky at first, but if you just remember two keyboard combinations…. Use your word processor to type your response and do the spell check (if it’s not done automatically). Highlight all the text with your mouse. Then press and hold the CTRL key, then the “C” key. That copies everything that’s high lighted into the clipboard. Now switch back to the HOW site, use your mouse to click in the box titled “write now” (where you normally enter your text. That puts the cursor in that box) – and press and hold the CTRL key, then the “V” key. That pastes the text that you have copied. If you’d like, I can give you a shortcut to get the response title in as well. This will not do anything for poor grammar, but it’s guaranteed to improve your correspondences by two or three grade levels.

Use the right mouse button...

... to select the commands for cut or for paste you do not need to use the keyboard at all. Took me a long time to even realize it was there let alone the fact it actually did something. Now if I could only figure out why my computer came with a retractable cup holder.
