When we arrived at the slip where we keep Speedy, our 95 H 26, we were told by two of our neighbors (both 2 slips away either side)that Speedy took a direct hit by lightening on Tuesday, June 18th. A very intense storm rolled in with large hail stones and lots of fireworks. The neighbors headed about 100 feet down the dock to the covered section and just as they arrived a lightening bolt hammered down right behind them. All said Speedy was "rock-in an a rollin". Needless to say we were very concerned and promptly started looking for damage. Wow, no holes in the hull, all electronics were fine, the windex atop the mast wasn't melted and the "tell tails" were fine and pointing due south. What gives? It was too early in the day to be "noon" somewhere in the world. These are respectable gentlemen and strongly convinced this "bolt" hammered our lady. After a very thourough check up we reluctantly backed her south out of her slip and headed out to sail. As I shifted into forward gear "THERE WAS THE ANSWER!!!" About 150 feet aft of Speedy's slip was a 15 foot tall, metal, US Government floatable, towable outhouse with the corner of its roof blown loose. Standard government BS or political flatulence? You be the judge. Ray & Maria S/V Speedy

Bet the owners

(Government) are self insured and don't have any idea how to save $ by repairing the damage. You will, probably, see a brand new one show up there, shortly. Thanks to all of us taxpayers!!
