I've a brand-new H340 and love this boat. It's equipped with the factory installed Raytheon knot meter. My problem is the boat simply will not exceed 5.5kt regardless of wind/sail conditions. It "feels" faster, my Garmin III and installed Raytheon 300 both tell me I'm doing between 7.2kt-7.9kt. I'm suspecting the incorrect paddlewheel in the transducer. Anyone else experience this and how do I know if the correct one is in place.?????

Be sure you're using knots

Be sure that your know meater is set for knots and not MPH. Also, same with GPS.

Calibration of Knotmeter

On my '97 340, I have the ST-30 Raytheon Autohelm Knot and depth meters. You have the correct paddlewheel you just need to calibrate the speed meter by putting in a correction factor. There is a calibration offset for the knotmeter and I think I set mine to 1.23 to make it read correctly. Read the book and it will tell you the combination of buttons to get to the calibration mode. The GPS speed reading is speed over ground usually quite accurate if current is minimum. You can make a run between markers both directions and time it with your watch. Average it out to get the calibration factor Calculate true speed D=RXT or R-D/T R - Rate or Speed, D - Distance, T- Time. You may find more in the archives here. Good luck and enjoy your new 340.
