Speed of a Hunter 25

Given wind of 10 knts sailing close haul of beam reach, can anyone tell me the average speed of a 25?

A Hunter 25 with a LWL of 20.17 feet will have a hull speed of Knots : 6.02 or Miles per hour : 6.93

How much you have hanging off the boat, fenders, towels, kids, rope, plastic bags, anchors etc will all affect the speed of the boat in any kind of wind.
You can exceed this speed in swells as the boat tries to surf.

That is theorical hull speed over the water for a displacement hull based on the following formula; HS= square root of LWL Times 1.34. Seemingly pretty straightforward but the magical 1.34 factor was derived a while back in an attempt to average out on how the different hull shapes of the time affected the interaction of the bow and stern waves. This factor is not quite up to scientific measurement standards and the shapes of the average sailboat hulls have changed since its development. It is still in use as the formula yields good enough results to show the difference in speed between boats of different LWL but as far as being an indicator of the actual speed of a particular boat I would say it is at best unreliable. Some boat designer even went as far as referring to it as "total bullshit".

I wouldn't pay much attention to the theoretical hull speed argument. It was developed during the age of steam to determine the most efficient engine size for a full displacement sized commercial vessel. The power needed to push the boat past its theoretical hull speed rose exponentially as did the amount of fuel needed to generate that power.
