speed indicator

I have a Navman speed and depth system. The yard had to replace
the paddle wheel they broke while taking the boat out last fall. The speed
does not work.. I removed the transducer and spun the wheel and it
shows speed. I checked that the wheel was installed the proper way but
no speed when the transducer is installed.
Any ideas...??

Unless oriented perpendicular to the flow, you will have the condition you describe.

There should be a key (slot) that you line up when you install the speed wheel in the through-hull. On my Data Marine speed wheel, there's also a red and green strip on the same side as the key to give a visual of how to orient it in the through hull.
