GPS for depth is risky!
You're assuming that the chart data (both position and depth) in the GPS are accurate and current. Don't forget that charts (whether paper or electronic) are not always accurate, paper charts and GPS don't always agree, and many of the hydrographic surveys used to make charts are old. Bottoms do move around. On top of that, if your GPS ever fails, you're screwed.I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I firmly believe in not relying on a single source for my position data. In addition, independent depth measurement can be used to fix your position, which is something you can't do if the depth and position are automatically linked. Happy sailing.PeterH23 "Raven"
