Close to the centerline!

Mine is just in front of the keel right on the centerline. The unit called a "Focus" and is manufactured by B&G. This one piece unit has log, depth, speed and water temperature all in one neat 4"x4" package.

Autohelm ST50 Tridata

On my 30T (1991) during construction the factory installed Autohelm ST50 Tridata with two transducers measuring speed and depth. The manual emphasizes that for accurate readings the speed transducer must be mounted where it will be in clear flow and the following guidelines are listed: 1. Be at least 150mm (6in) from the keel (in sailing yacht ideally ahead of the keel). 2. Be near the centerline. 3. Be clear of other through hull fittings or projections. 4. Have sufficient headroom above the through hull fitting to allow transducer to be withdrawn. Also important to make sure you obtain a blank plug to use when removing the transducer for cleaning the paddlewheel while you are in the water.

take consideration for haulout straps!

When you do locate a spot, make sure that any protrusion will not get in the way of any haul out straps which usually are pulled aft until it is stipped by the beginning of the keel. J. McCue
