Help....all you salty O'Day Sailor's.....I am new to your regatta of daysailors.I have just purchased a 1974 O'Day, HIN GCS 21101 0574. Title states her loa as 21'.In rigging her, I found that there were no turnbuckles on the forestay or backstay.There is one turnbuckle on the port shroud (?).I am not familiar with the standing rigging and feel that the turnbuckle should at the very least be placed to the backstay or forestay. I also needed to replace the jib halyard. I took the measurement approximately 1' down the mast where there are two stainless tabs. I assume the lower tab is for the halyard pully attach point. I also need to replace a broken forestay. I took the measurement from approximately 1' down the mast where it appears the forestay attaches to the upper stainless tab(?). Utilizing the formula for finding the oblique of a right triangle,I took the measurement from the deck attach point of the forstay to the foot of the mast (93.0"), measurement from the mast attach point to the foot of the mast (248.75").Formula is square both values, add together and square root the sum and divide by 12 for feet.I came up with a length of 22.13" for the length of the forestay.I went to West Marine to have the forestay made up and he wasn't impressed by those numbers or my math ability.....he said I needed to go to the O'Day people and get the correct length.With that thought I decided I just really needed to get the rigging specs and get her rigging correct. So, any specs, dimensions and or measurements would be so appreciated in order that "Pro Re Nata" can make her debute before the winds of winter are upon us.I have given her a latin name, as this poor old girl had no name at all....Will send photo when able.
