in the specs it says there are two different drafts 4' and 5.5', displcements 9900lbs and 9700lbs, and ballasts 4200lbs and 4000lbs. are there two different mast heights as well? I think the rigs are the same.

I think that both of the rigs for the shoal & deep draft are the same.

Top Heavy?

Wow with 200 pounds less in the keel I would think the Shoal draft version would be a bit more top heavy.

H31 keel

the 1983-87 H31 came with a shoal or deep keel. The ballast in the short keel is 200 pounds more than the deep keel. The length of the shallow draft keel is longer at the keel stub than the deep draft. The designer, Cortland Steck, did this to give the shallow keel more "bite" to aid in the differance of the draft when sailing to windward. All other specs are the same including mast height and sail area. Mac.
