For many years we’ve observed two “special” days for sailing, and to go day-sailing on them. Sometimes with guests aboard; other times just Admiral and me. Those are New Year’s Day, and the afternoon/evening of the summer solstice (by the calendar). New Year’s Day to begin the new year right!, and to look forward to many such days over the ensuing 364. On the solstice to confirm our half-way point; to look back as well as forward. But also to witness, occasionally, the coincidence of a rising full moon against a setting sun in all but perfect diametric “balance”; one east, the other west (at least as near due west as it will set). We’ve been fortunate to live, and to have lived, where year-round sailing is both possible and enjoyable—FL and CA. Tomorrow the forecast is for sunny skies with a high near 68 deg F and light wind from northerly quadrants early, becoming SW in late afternoon.
To anybody else partaking— Best Wishes!
We’ll be flying the SBO burgee.
