Special Sailing Days

For many years we’ve observed two “special” days for sailing, and to go day-sailing on them. Sometimes with guests aboard; other times just Admiral and me. Those are New Year’s Day, and the afternoon/evening of the summer solstice (by the calendar). New Year’s Day to begin the new year right!, and to look forward to many such days over the ensuing 364. On the solstice to confirm our half-way point; to look back as well as forward. But also to witness, occasionally, the coincidence of a rising full moon against a setting sun in all but perfect diametric “balance”; one east, the other west (at least as near due west as it will set). We’ve been fortunate to live, and to have lived, where year-round sailing is both possible and enjoyable—FL and CA. Tomorrow the forecast is for sunny skies with a high near 68 deg F and light wind from northerly quadrants early, becoming SW in late afternoon.:) To anybody else partaking— Best Wishes!
We’ll be flying the SBO burgee.:dancing:

Cooler here and no rain at the moment, but overcast. So this Sunday afternoon will head to the boat for a departure north Monday morning, thereabouts; again weather permitting. Hope to remain out for a few days of island time. SBO burgee will fly prominently. Parks Bay offers much promise.

We normally have a half dozen boats spend New Years eve bow to the beach (or close) at Steamboat Cove, Lake Havasu, AZ. Due to covid and the wind blowing 15-20 kts right on the beach all night we are cancelling the event this year. So like you we will have our group out for a New Years Day sail. Our other special day is any full moon from November to March. May the new year be better than those of the past.

Parks Bay was the highlight of our trip in Sept for overnight anchoring. Much nicer than Inati Bay at Lummi Island. Blind Bay was nice scenically but not as cozy. Recall, we did have northerly winds! Here's to a good cruise!
