Spec for bottle screws/threaded forks

Hi all.
I'm having a problem getting a replacement for a left-hand threaded fork.

See photos of threaded fork laid along & across a ruler on
http://jkcray.maths.ul.ie/Utils/DSC00121.JPG
http://jkcray.maths.ul.ie/Utils/DSC00127.JPG

My approx measurements:
Bolt length: 10.6 cm from base of bolt to end of bolt
9.6cm from centre axis of clevis pin to end of bolt
Bolt diameter: 9mm
Clevis pin barrel diameter: 8mm

I could just send bolt in the post to rigger but if it goes missing I am
stuck!

So does anyone have a spec that I can pass on to a rigger?

Thanks

John

John,

It looks like (part of) a 3/8" UNF bottlescrew, they usually also
have 3/8" (9,5 mm) clevis pin.
Most marine shops here in Denmark sell them, but they are expensive,
compared to a 10 mm bottlescrew. I replaced four of my old 3/8"
bottlescrews, with 10 mm. Check lenght and diameters to see if they
will fit your rig.

Cheers
Ulf

Hi Ulf
that makes a lot of sense - thanks.

When you converted to metric (10 mm) did you have to change the threaded
forks (rigging bolts) attached to the shrouds (wire) or just the bottle
screws - ie did the 10mm bottle screw work with the 3/8" UNF bolts?

Thanks again,

John

Hi John,

10 mm and 3/8" do not mix.
If you have forks in both ends (like on your picture), then replace
the complete assembly. Just make sure that the lenght can be adjusted
as needed, and that the clevis pin will fit in the end of the shroud.
If your shroud ends in a threaded stub you will have to find
spareparts with the same thread (it could be something else than 3/8"
UNF - there are several non-metric standards)Cheers
