Speaking of LectraSan

Some time back I spoke with Raritan and asked if they had a modular unit that would fit in the shallow bilge of a sailboat, snd they did not. Are they comtemplating making one in the future? Thanks.P.S. Your book is great!

What parts could be separated into separate modules? There are only 3--mixer, macerator, electrodes...and they all have to work simultaneously. The chambers are already the minimum size to hold a flush...any smaller, and they'd over flow--either send untreated waste overboard or back up into the toilet.The whole thing is only 10x16x13.5--smaller than a 9 gallon holding tank...and does not have to go in a bilge. The only limitations are within about 6' of the toilet and at or below--even slightly above is possible--the level of the toilet discharge. I'll bet if we'd put our heads together, we could have found a place for it within those parameters for your aft toilet.Glad you like my book!

I was thinking of whether they could do something modular like VacuFlush has done with their optional unit.I'm willing to "eat crow" and cut my losses. If we can find a location, I'll scrap the tank I just installed and install the LectraSan. Within 6 feet or so of the head, the bilge tank area gives me a maximum of 9 inches headroom. There is a hanging locker in the aft cabin just aft of the head where the headroom is OK, but it's against the sloping hull sides and may be too short. I can't find a dimensional drawing on the Raritan site, but maybe you could give me the appropriate dimensions that I need to accomodate. Thanks

Don't do that, George!

It's not as if your new aluminum tank is gonna explode if you use it...it'll last at least as long as the previous (original?) tank, and from what you've said, you need it inside your marina. So keep it, and let's find a location for the L/S...with a y-valve in the head discharge line to let you choose between 'em. To find the specs, go to the Raritan site http://www.raritaneng.com to products, waste treatment, then click on Lectra/San. On the left side of the page you'll see a list of documents in pdf. The dimensions are in both the promo sheet and the manual. When installing it, follow ALL the directions VERY carefully. Btw...there's a brand new L/S MC for sale on eBay right now (also a very old one--never used, but avoid that one anyway). The price last night was still a bargain. Go to ebay, then enter search term "marine sanition."
