I have a 2003 Hunter 306. I'd like to install some speakers for the stereo in the cockpit. Any suggestions? I saw neighbors 36' that had a nice box on the underside of the arch, but a call to my dealer gives me a price of $514 for the box. Too much! I do like th idea of getting them out of the way though (we frequently sit in the cokpit with our backs to the cabin wall, so that's not a good place).

You might want to look into wakeboard boat tower speakers. The would likely mount to the arch. They are waterproof as well.

In both sides of the pedestal.

Get small 4 inch waterproof speakers and place them in the pedestal. A box under the arch will always be in the way. This way they will be out of the way totally besides being a much cheaper installation. The resonance of the cockpit will somewhat improve the sound the lower they are.

Sorry to interupt

Nick, nice boat. I have decided I need a dodger and hate to sew. Did you add your dodger and if so do you remember the vendor?...Looks great! Thanks...Mike tjf, I have the factory speaker set-up (2004/306) mounted on the arch and it looks good, works great and is out of the way. I installed a volume control on mine so I do not have to go below to adjust the volume. Might try a post in the 'Gear Wanted' section of this forum. Have a great day!

Follow-up

Just a follow-up: I considered box speakers, but decided to go with the Hunter box that mounts to the underside of the arch. Hunter sells it for $400 now and it includes speakers and an overhead light. Thanks to Nick for suggesting to call Hunter directly. My local Hunter dealer wanted $515 for the box without speakers.
