What spare parts would you recommend carrying for blue water sailing (ie, where you're going to be several days from land)? If it makes a difference, my engine is a Yanmar 3QM30 (1980)? Thanks.

3QM30 Spare Parts ...

For most every Yanmar engine we have put together a "minor" and a "major" spare parts kit. I would recommend that you at least carry the minor kit and a parts and service manual. The Minor Kit for the Yanmar 3QM30 is part number 3QM30MINOR and includes: Alternator Belt 25117-003151 Fuel Filter 104500-55710 Oil Filter 124550-35110 Impeller 128296-42070 Water Pump Gasket 124223-42110 Zinc O Rings and Gaskets 123210-09310, 124450-11681, 124450-42080 Water Pump Seals 124223-42080, 24422-153007 Zinc 27210-200300 Air Filter 124770-12540 FF O Ring 24341-000440 Bleeder Plug 124060-59380 BP Washer 23418-060000 Then there is the Major Kit for this engine, part number 3QM30MAJOR: This kit includes all of the above, plus: gasket set, Injector Seat and Gaskets, Lift Pump & Gasket, fuel Injector, thermostat & gasket, engine paint (not really important for an emergency), parts manual and service manual (which you should always have on board ... even if you do not purchase a "major" kit you should get these manuals on board). Major Spares Kit is the Answer

We typically offer two types of spare parts kits. The minor spares kit contains filters, belts, etc. the so called common consumables. For blue water/ open water sailing we strongly suggest a major spares kit. This gives you the following items: Belt Filters Impeller Zinc and O Ring Gasket Set Lift Pump Pump gaskets and seals Parts and Service Manuals Injector Thermostat Bleeder plug gasket chamber and heat insulator Price is $ 422 at www.marinedieseldirect.com Ike Stephenson
