We need a replacement for the aluminum fitting at the aft end of the boom that the main sheet attaches to. Mine ours has nearly worn through. I have seen some made of stainless steel. Don't know if that was original on some Vegas or is an after-market item but either would do. Also the bronze main sheet traveler car. Same problem the bale is wearing through where the shackle for the main sheet tackle attaches. Not many options in this little town and I do not know if they will last until we can get down to Port Townsend next year.

how hard is it to remove? how many holes to fill? what is a fair price? I have one that is still installed (traveler car and track, bronze) The previous owner installed a new track and car at the forward part of the cockpit.......so it is junk? maybe I should hang on to mine as a backup and not uninstall it? I've never used the original one.......is there an advantage to the original and it being located where it is??Bruce S/v Cygnet #169

I looked at a Series II Vega at our marina to see what gear you have at the end of the boom (mine is a Series I with the stainless "bail")
I see it's a casting and can understand why it would wear over time.
My thoughts: make up a piece of 1/4" stainless about the same size and shape as the casting, drill the appropriate holes, and add a few washers at the boom mounting point to match the original casting's thickness. That should work well and never wear out.
See you in Port Townsend next year? Or maybe Fisherman Bay on Lopez Island for the 2013 Vega Rendezvous!

I've uploaded a photo of the boom end fitting to Tern's album. I think this is the part you need replaced. If you don't have access to material and a shop to drill something out as Peter has suggested there are a couple of other alternatives.
I can remove mine and have it duplicated by a machine shop here, might be a bit pricey but I can get an estimate and let you know before authorizing the work.
If you would be satisfied with a bit of plate or flat stock drilled out as Peter suggests then I should be able to put that together, I may even have some material in the shop. You would then be able to have a proper one made while you are in Port Townsand, where you would have more control over the work.

It provides an attachment for the preventer but it was also my thought that I would have a bit of redundancy for the main sheet attachment, although I was thinking it would be the shaft/bolt part that might fail since it is hidden from view and difficult to inspect.
