My rudder just snapped in two in some high winds. THey actually were not that bad, but I salw that there was some rot in the wood. A 15 year old keel, I guess it is possible. My question is that as I have to purchase a new keel now, woudl it be better to get a spade or a kick up rudder. I had a spade rudder before, and do not have problem with shallow water. My boat is a 1989 22 wing keel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

I have a spade and am fine with it. Catalina Direct and the Chandelry of this site sell rudders. The Chandelry has one that is made of plastic and is about half the price of the "regulation" rudder. I bought the regulation one from CD and am very happy with it too. My rudder also snapped in two due to rot. Very common. Randy
