Larry, Sounds like great fun. What kind of boat and where do you plan to leave from? The definitive work on where to go and when is Jimmy Cornell's World Cruising Routes. It won't tell where to drop anchor or where good restaurants are. Instead it focuses on weather patterns, prevailing winds, seasons for tropical storms, etc. and will give you the safest routes, mileage, waypoints etc. I'm sure it's available in the chandlery on this site. What route do you plan to take to the South Pacific? If you happen to pass through the Japanese Islands, stop by Okinawa. There are some very interesting sights to see here and plenty of friendly American sailors to help out if needed.
