Hunter H260 Traverse City
I was planning on taking a sailing trip this weekend down the NJ coast departing from Barnegat Inlet. Can anyone recommend one or more good protected anchorages? I have a Hunter 336 with a 56' mast clearance requirement. I would prefer not opening any bridges if I don't have to. I could easilly get to Little Egg Harbor, Ocean City or Great Egg Harbor. The Farley State marina is booked in AC. Cape May will be too far for this trip. Any recommendations? George S/V Windswept _/)

I'll Look around for you

I will make some calls tonight and I will look tomorrow morning when I get down there. I'll go to the marina office (Farley State) and see what I can do. Maybe there were some cancellations! If I can pull this off though, payment can be made with beer!!! LOL e-mail me at gpd955@msn.com with a number you can be reached at. Jack Manning S/V Victim of Fate Atlantic CIty, NJ

SJ Anchorage

Check out the well protected anchorage in Brigantine inside the cut named "Rum Point". Entering this narrow cut can be quite disconcerting. You have to stay to the extreme left upon entering while people are bathing just off your starboard side in knee deep water seemingly within arms reach! It, of course, can get busy on weekend daytime hours but settles down at night. You can dinghy back to the cut and beach the inflatable on the Eastern side to go for a swim. You can also dinghy accross the harbor (watch the current) to the State Marina's fuel dock for a tie up and go visit the casino. I have no problem getting in with my 35.5.

Kammermans in AC

Last month we stayed at Kammerman's Marina in Atlantic City. Looks like you can also anchor near there. Last month we also getting in and out of Manasquan Inlet to be straight forward, although the current at the dock in Manasquan was quite strong. No bridges either place. A few years ago we went in Great Egg Harbor in a 23 foot boat and anchored "inside" the draw bridge. I'd recommend against it. For one, you don't want to do an opening bridge. More importantly, we were very close to the channel. There wasn't enough depth to get very far from the channel.

The Best Marina, Seaview Harbor

Maybe I'm biased but . .Seaview Harbor Marina in Longport NJ, just 7 miles south of Atlantic City Inlet on the Great Egg Harbor Inlet is primo. About 400 slips, flaoting docks, including transient slips all with cable tv, electric, water and wifi internet connection, a fine restaurant, fuel, supplies, pool and all the amenities.
