I am planning for a project to replace all of the fuel lines on the Yanmar 4JH4E on our Hunter 41AC. I have sourced the 5/16" line that runs from the tank to the primary filter and from the secondary filter back to the tank as well as some 1/4" line for some of the shorter runs on the engine. What I have not been able to find is some 3/16" I.D. for the return line from the injectors to the secondary filter. The hose that is there currently has the notation "ISO 7840-A2-CE-RCD-433". Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might get some? The local chandlery and West Marine had 1/4" as their smallest stocked size.

I went down this road a couple of years ago. The hoses on the Yanmar are metric, not SAE. That means the hoses almost fit, but they will leak a little, especially the hoses with spring clamps. I ended up using Yanmar hoses, they were not unreasonably priced, and they worked.

A 5mm I.D. is 0.197 whereas 3/16" is 0.1875. So a 3/16" I.D. hose will fit tightly on a 5mm barb. Comparatively, a 6mm I.D. hose is 0.235 while a 1/4" is 0.250 which would fit loosely on a 6mm barb. Continuing, an 8mm I.D. hose is 0.315 while 5/16" is 0.313 so 5/16" would fit snugly on a 8mm barb. A 10mm I.D. hose is 0.394" and 3/8" is 0.375" so it would fit tightly on a 10mm barb.

I ordered some 5mm I.D. ISO 7840 hose from a U.K seller on eBay. We'll see how well it fits the Yanmar.
