Hi there sailors. I'm wondering if any of you would know of a source where I can purchase a new cars for original (bronze) Genoa T-tracks for my Vega. Any info highly appreciated! :)

Hi Arek,
Are you the new owner of Chasquis? I tied up near her at Schooner Cove on my way south last spring ... nice boat. I also saw an Albin Viggen, the Vega's 25' cousin, at the same place. That's the only one I've ever spotted here in the PNW.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

The Series I Vega Genoa tracks are only 20mm (3/4") wide, as opposed to the more common 25mm (1") tracks. Barton makes them.
Click on the "Genoa Cars & Sliders for 20mm 'T' Track" link for their selection.

Also, the Rig-Rite site lists them at http://tinyurl.com/yc992sh
I was looking at getting new ones, but decided to wait until I upgrade the tracks to 25mm, as I suspect the present day 20mm cars are not intended for the use (abuse) they could get on a Vega.

Peter: I have those Barton cars and they are plenty strong for the Vega. Just need to drill shallow pin holes in the track. The bronze track on the Vega is worth keeping - have you priced the bigger stuff lately? Leave your old cars on the track as well for backups, snatch blocks, or extra security (like using the adjustable car forward and a second fixed block aft). Bill Bach V1071

Thanks Bill, that's good news. I like my old bronze tracks, and you just saved me a lot of needless work!

I hope Arek reads your note, too.

Hmmm .... Arek, I seem to have your boat confused with a local PNW one, due to a recent newsletter indicating that #993 was a boat called 'Chasquis', here on Vancouver Island ... but you're in Atlantic City!! Anyway, I hope your project is coming along nicely.

Appologies!

Hi Peter,
LOL, that would be some serious sailing for my Vega to get to west coast. I hope that maybe one day :)
Anyway, I was asking about car because I got a car from Schaefer that's 3/4 x 1/8, but that's just a bit too narrow...doesn't fit on my track :(
