who has good prices on a remote throttle/start/shift control for my '96 Honda 9.9 outboard motor? Anyone? Its a pain trying to reach down to change gears or throttle while maning the tiller...

Kneeling down and auto-elevator

I have the old style cut out in the transom on my Catalina 27. I'm getting the transom filled in and an auto-elevated unit to raise and lower the motor into the water. I will also be purchasing the 9.9 Mer that also has self-rising, so that the motor can be fully taken out of the water on "auto." Along with that I too am installing the throttle/start/shift control to work the motor. Along with a lighter wallet, I will lighten the load on my slowly getting older back for puting and taking out of the motor while under way and leaving and returning to slips.

Cheaper idea

I don't motor a lot, so the worst problem is in tilting the motor up, out of the water. My simple but very effective fix is a small length of line (24" or so) attached to the rear of the motor cover. Reach thru the transom cut-out, grab the line and tilt the motor right up. No strain !! Just watch your fingers.

Think you have to go through Honda dealer...

which means $$$. I recently bought a set for an older model Tohatsu from outboardmotors.com ang got a great deal over Tohatsu dealer. You might check with them, very helpful. But I think Honda is 100% proprietary, only their dealers can sell their stuff.
