Sort of a photo, the unplanned trip, or, sometimes a motorboat is better

Below are the highlights of an unplanned day trip I took with a friend in his 22' HBI inflatable, (top speed about 30 knots) , The chart shows the route we took and most of the stops, we left Bayside with only one thing planned - having breakfast

· Left Bayside at 7:30 AM in a 22’ HBI inflatable, forecast was for little wind, which is why we were in a motorboat.
· Stopped for Breakfast in Castine at Maries corner variety (ate with Wayne Hamilton)
· Nosed into Horseshoe Creek then gassed up at Bucks Harbor Marina
· Nosed into Center Harbor to gawk at the boats there
· Visited with friend who is the waterfront director at Wooden Boat school, sat on his waterfront porch (the Boathouse) for 45 minutes
· Proceeded to east end of Reach, then to Isle au Haut village for lunch at the Lobster Lady’s
· Nosed into Duck Harbor
· Landed very briefly at Brimstone island
· Headed to North Haven for a couple of pints at the new Brewery
· Watched Dark Harbor 17’s racing under spinnakers at Pendleton Point
· Cruised through Brackett’s Channel and Gilkey Harbor
· Back in Bayside at 4:05 PM

Jim, I have an acquaintance with a 25' +- Boston Whaler with 2x200 HP outboards, goes wicked fast......we have had similar day trips, Kinda fun, though I wouldn't choose it as the favored mode of time on the water....

Beautiful. I spent a summer in that area 40 years ago. I was 14. Fell in love with it.
I think I read about two guys taking a center-console outboard across the Atlantic.

Wow! 30 knots sure shrinks an area down to size.

That track is a dream sail (almost all of it, a reach in prevailing winds), that if you took a week to do it, you might feel a little rushed.

Reminds me of my daily trip down the driveway to the mailbox! By the end of the day, been everywhere, done everything and the mail is still in the box!
