Something never seen before

I've been looking at O'Day 28's. I did my research and thought I knew the boat ( and it's characteristics) pretty well. But......
I just found a 1984 Special Edition boat. This boat has a wood rub rail instead of the traditional rubber stripe. Is this a factory options? It looks professionally done, but I've never seen it before. The current owner bought the boat that way and does not know if it is factory original or not. Anyone have this on their boat? Anyone know if this was a factory option?

Most likely this was added by a previous owner, although O'DAY apparently did agree to make some custom touches to boats on the production line. I'd still assume this was added later by a previous owner, possible that original rubrail (aluminum w/rubber insert) may have been damaged in a storm? This may have been done by the yard that did the repairs, or maybe it was just done to dress up the boat?
