Interesting thread. Imagine tying a spinnaker to your stanchion base by lines gathered to one line. If you're going with 62psi, multiply that by the number of square inches in your chute and transmit that load to your post. Now figure in the moments and do a little vector analysis. Real situation isn't that dramatic (force is distributed over many contact points), but you get the picture. Another way to approach this question might be to get the materials folks to opine on what force it would take to pop the weld (where did the base break?) or lift the screws straight out of the deck and work backwards from that.

Higgs, my boss used shink warp on his HC

and didn't leave spacers to get the water out. The boat blister where the water was trapped. You never know how something happens unless you see it. I have a bend stanchion and don't know how it happen. I think the boat next to me hit my boat. Never know for sure. Good luck fixing her. It should not be too hard to replace a stanchion. I did some looking at the Nassau on the market. Very nice looking boats. I like the 42s. Look like a good blue water boat!

You obviously have a lot of knowledge re forces. What is your response to recent posts. This is not meant to be a challenge type thing.
