Aren't even under sail... We anchored in an idyllic Maine spot last night & I woke up at 4:25 a.m. to see this. Of course reached immediately reached for my camera.. It was railing and the dark clouds overhead parted just slightly at the horizon for a pre-dawn glimpse of the sun.. Sorry for the grainy feeling to the image. I had to shoot at a very high ISO in order to capture it hand held...

Awesome shot Maine

Great shot, and I thought I was the only crazy one to see the sunrise. Woke this morniong at 5:30 to see a red, red sunrise, but too tired to find the camera. Spent the night at Beckwith Island with seven others. ( normally 100) Went to bed in dead calm, and woke at 2:00 to 15 - 20 knot winds, turned on the windspeed to see how strong they were. Wanted to check to see if the anchor was holding and it was, even though we were dancing back and forth and you could feel when the rode and chain hit full strength on the anchor alone. Only one boat dragged, someone who had come in after 11:00. I first looked over to see another anchor light at 2:00 while checking my bearings and the others in the anchorage. When I looked back the latest anchor light seemed to be further away. Checking again sure enough, he was drifting into the open bay. He finally fired up his motor and headed back into the anchorage and motored around a while until he found a suitable spot.

I have never seen that many boats at anchor

in one place on the Chesapeake. Nice shot Jim.

MaineSail knows his F stop and ISO settings

You should see some of the action shots of his dogs in mid leap on his website. He tells you what camera, lens and what settings were used for most shots. Then there are his 'how to' web pages which are meticulously documented. This is one anal dude but I am glad that he willingly shares this with us and really don't want to get on his wrong side. Scott B, I don't think that anyone is crazy to get up or be awake for sunrise, moon rise or whatever. Mostly sailors get to see more sun and moon rises then the general public. I recently finished a 4 day passage from Tortola, BVI to Provo, Turks & Caicos and I can tell you that I was always gladdened to see the moon rise, even if it was at 3 or 4 in the AM. At least that gave the ocean waves some shape. I enjoyed the passage but kind of missed pulling into an anchorage or a marina for some down time instead of pulling 3 hour watches over night. The only ones who are crazy are the solo circumnavigators!

Just took your advice Phil.

I uploaded 3 photos to the C 42 Mk2 photo page. They all showed up in the gallery page but when it click on any photo to get the large view and then use the next photo button on that page it seems to only scroll back and forth between the first two photos on the list.
