Some questions on my new to me 1980 C30TR

for starters is this a factory color? It's like a light tan. I found a few small spots with light blue showing through on chips. Is that just the fiberglass or was she at one time baby blue?

are these standard turnbuckles for a 1980? The PO did not know if they had been changed but the PO of the PO did a major refit to the boat and I think replaced them. I even have a spare with the spare parts box. The cables look almost new.

Is this standard storage? Or did the Original owner make this?

Bad photo but what is that brass thing on the ceiling right next to the light? An old light fixture?

Most of the boat has been updated minus the electronics

had a survey done before purchase. it was stated in they survey the very good condition but nothing about a repaint. The surveyer did say this was one of the cleanest boats he has seen though and I was getting a lot of boat for the money. He checked for wetness and for delamination. And did a rundown of everthing on the boat. We had the boat pulled also so he could inspect the bottom too.

I'm trying to find out the color so I can touch up the tiny little chips here and there. Not to many though.

Many of the older C30s came in blue. It's quite possible. Tha tan's a lot nicer, IMHO.

The open body turnbuckles are GOOD, much better than the closed body ones the boat may have come with.

The brass ceiling thing seems to be a holder for a trawler lamp.

Dan, the tan color is stock on your C-30. My boat is the same original color. I also have blue showing through in a few places. If you contact Catalina, I'm sure they will tell you the same and advise you on touch up paint. Both the storage and the turnbuckles are also of that vintage. I agree with the thought that the bracket is for an oil lamp. You have a nice boat. Enjoy!! Lindcat.

The open bodied turnbuckles are replacement type, and the closed bodied turnbuckles are original & should be replaced as they suffer from internal crevice corrosion & can fail.
The color of your C30 seems so uniform, but hard to tell if its original. My boat was repainted, & has bits of yellow showing through. Blue & yellow colored decks were common in the 70-80's vintage. I also have a 1980 C-30. "A Good Year" for the C-30.
Yours looks exceptionally clean. I have a lot of before & after pics on my page, it U want to check out my refit album. Your bow sprit looks longer then factory, & I have never seen an interior chart table mounted apparent wind indicator gauge set like that before.
Every Catalina is a lil' different which keeps them interesting. Your electrical fuse panel looks original. I would inspect all wiring connections for potential corrosion. What engine do you have? Looks good overall Mate, Cheers.

The open Merriman silicon-bronze turnbuckles were the smart thing to replace the factory stainless turnbuckles which would gall and freeze tight with ss on ss.
The silicon bronze turnbuckles can wear a bit and are much safer, etc.
The thing in the cabin top was to hang a cabin lantrn.
The tan is an original color.
