Some Folks Don't Like Fog....

Took this picture about 4 minutes ago. The boat in front of us is Tim R. & his wife... We love the fog it is peaceful, quiet and changes the whole feel of a place. Was out in the dinghy gunkholing a little while ago and just got up into this little head of a cove and sat there and drifted for about 5 minutes watching the birds, some lobsters, starfish and crabs on the bottom and basically getting covered in fog mist...

Doesn't get much better to a Mainer.....

Looks peacful...in an ethereal way. I'm expecting the Headless Horseman to come charging out of the gloom any second.... heh, heh.

I dislike fog, 'cause I don't have radar, I guess.... but mainly because... just like on the freeway.. there's a lot of yayhoos out here who don't adjust their driving.

I was fogged in a few years back when traveling from Greenport to Msytic aaand the radar was great showing us the ferrys coming and going to new London but when I got to Mystic river we had 2 power boaters fly right in front of our bow,to this day I tell myself i hope they had radar and new I was there???
I have yet to get fog here in Florida like up in LI sound,I guess very lucky.

Well then you'd love this week and weekend here in eastern LIS. Day three in this web cam pic at my marina. Fog never lifted the last two days and looks the same for today and probably the rest of the weekend.

Looks about the same as I remember back in 77 in Portland. Cold and wet. Once the fog burned off the sky and water were the most amazing vivid blue I had ever seen. A crisp breeze was blowing and it made the area around Casco Bay almost magical.

We have had the same happen in the Great South Bay and I could see the ferry's and small power boats moving at a great deal of speed and my thinking is their using GPS to get where they want to go and don't realize a boat is in their path, a little nerve racking

I dont get as much as the guys down east I navigate by dead reconing and have done so for many years No instruments or electronics. I can manage in it but I would just as soon not
Fog is nice to look at in pictures but its a lot of work to sail in I would prefer to see where Im going

I'm with you Maine, I think the fog is beautiful. It adds an element of mystery to an already spooky body of water we call our home cruising grounds. In order to sail on Lake Superior, you have to be prepared for the fog.

I love the fog....it's so isolating...eerie....

One of the weirdest motorcycle rides I ever had.....Talimena Skyway in Oklahoma....the top was up in the clouds....visibility was "maybe" 50 feet, barely enough to see the taillights of the bike in front of me. Not enough to see much beyond the shoulder. 15 or so MPH, some Pink Floyd on the Zumo, and what a a long, strange trip it was.

A few daysw ago we made it through Buzzard's Bay in thick fog picking up most of the boats on radar or AIS. The radio traffic becomes less than useful when local knowledge is needed to decipher the information, i.e. Morning Dew leaving the Hurricane Barrier and proceeding east through Frog's Crotch. Who, where, how big, how close, anybody have a clue. As we got close to the Cape Cod Canal a Canadian sloop that had been on our stern hailed us to say they would follow us through the canal. That was the only radio traffic that made sense. Never saw any of those other boats.
