Solving a Hunter 26.5 motor problem

I am purchasing a new motor for my 1987 26.5. It originally had a Nissan two stroke with cockpit controls. I don't think the original Hunter "Sail Pac Package" bracket that came with the boat will take the torque of the Honda 9.9 long shaft I am looking to purchase. The new 4 strokes weren't around when these brackets went on these boats. Also because of the negative angle of the stern an aluminum mount, it seems, will have to be fabricated which to attach the motor bracket. I want to address the prop lift problem that plaques these boats in seas of 4' and more and the reaching and stretching encountered in raising the motor because of the design. Has anyone out there already been down this path?

reverse transom

You are describing a reverse transom and the outboard motor bracket that is on the boat at the time the boat was made could have hold the motor. I would build a fibergalss bracket that would fit the contour of the boat. Add a new stainless steel bracket that you can lift up and down. As for the shaft of the motor, it does need to be long but extra long is good. crazy Dave Condon
