Working on my boat on the jackstands I couldn't get my centerboard to drop. I tried massive pry bars, pushing down through the lifting tube, spraying oil and soap mixture up into the trunk with a pressure washer. Out of desperation and being a contractor I ran my sawsall with a 12" blade along both sides between the board and the trunk. Even took off the wedge plates and wedges. Nothing would move. At one point I even considered converting my keel into a fixed deep draft type. Then I had an inspiration...and it worked. So I'm passing it along to all of you who have had a similar experience. I made a loop out of some stainless stranded cable I had lying around from some old rigging using a cable clamp. I was able to get this loop up over the trailing end of the keel. Then I took my tire jack and put it between the bottom of one side of the keel trunk and the bottom of the wire loop. As I raised the jack, the keel freed itself and dropped. I was so relieved. What was holding it in the trunk was a thin layer of marine mud that had dried into a cement like substance. Water wouldn't dissolve it. If anyone wants more details feel free to email me.
