Matt Rutherford's first goal in his audacious attempt to circumnavigate North and South

America in a small sailboat, solo and without ever touching land, was to make it through the

Northwest Passage before winter. He has attained that goal in "St Brendan" a 27-foot Albin-Vega

sailboat and now is heading for the Bering Straits and south to Alaska.

He cast off in June form Annapolis, Maryland and has sailed over 6000 miles.
Matt has a learning disability and has dedicated his challenging voyage to Chesapeake Region

Accessible Boating (crabsailing.org), an Annapolis non-profit which provides boating opportunities

for children and adults with disabilities. Follow his passage at www.solotheamericas.com

Matt's achievement is already amazing.

If he rounds Cape Horn as planned it will be remarkable.

I plan to send a few Euros to his charity as a salute to his courage.

Another reason to be proud of our Vegas...
