Solenoid activating connection.

Completely rewiring my engine. Took it apart 4 years ago and can not remember what it looked like then. Took pictures but much doesn't show. On a Volvo MD11c there are 2 connecting tabs at the back of the solenoid. Which is positive and which is neg. I thought the negative connection could be via the engine connection but there are 2 tangs for wire connectors. Thanks Geoff

Volvo engine wiring

The volvo engine has two different wiring diagrams. One has the engine as the primary ground. The other has the engine isolated from ground and a special solenoid to bring ground to the starting circuit. If your engine has two pole oil pressure switch, it is most probably the isolated one. The volvo engine operating manual normally has a wiring diagram for this circuit.

It shows a two wire solonoid but doesn't show which is +. I suspect it doesn't matter? Geoff
