The sole in the galley and at the ladder is dirty and looks very worn as compared to the rest of the sole-doesn't appear to be any covering such as varnish still on the wood. By the table it is worn and much of the varnish or whateveris worn away. I have read most comments of people but could use some quick advice. By the way I just purchased the boat. 1. If I wish to remove and replace how do I get sole out--do I have to remove the cabinets or do I just remove after taking out the floor screws. 2. What process should I use to determine if there is still teak and holly remaining. 3. What is the process--sand, use bleach, etc to get clean. 4. What would you suggest for covering-varnish or urethane. Appreciate any help Bill Kirch

Bill: If you take a look in the Photo Forum, I just got done redoing my galley floor. Take a look and see if this would do it for you. Steve Dion

Another thought,

Our 34 had carpet installed when we bought it 10 years ago. Our sole looks like most of the others, 16 years of wear! It is a high quality berber, designed for a high traffic area, and has the regular jute backing. Nothing special as "marine" quality. It still looks fine, gets wet on occasions, and gets cleaned each fall. We had it bound on the edges, and there of course are three pieces. since it is rather stiff, and fit well, it does not move around. We intend to change it next season, just because we want a color change. I have no hope of getting the sole to look like new! Good luck to you!
