Sole Plate Question

I have a question about the caulk or sealant around the sole plate in the H26. I got some questionaable advice from Hunter about how easy it would be to remove the soleplate for refinishing. This soleplate is, in fact, glued to the cabin floor. Now refinishing is not so important. My question is: does anyone know what the material is that was used to caulk in around the edges of the sole plate? I have asked Hunter on a couple of occasions and they don't seem to know exactly what I am talking about. All I know is that it was a dull black material and very rubbery in the cured form. Thanks

Maybe Hunter did not do it?

Robert: Maybe the reason that Hunter does not know about the caulking is because they did not do it. This may have been the dealer (or previous owner). What you are talking about sounds like something like Sikaflex. This is the stuff that they use to caulk wooden decks. Other mfg. have a similar product, so it could be anything.

original sole

My H26 (1997) has the same black caulking around the cabin sole. I am fairly sure that it is the factory installation. However, I do not know what it is. Richard Graef s/v Sandpiper

Sole Plate

I am the original owner and it did come form the factory that way. I wanted to refinish the sole plate and Hunter told me to just pull up the sealent from around the sole plate and it would come up. It is actually glued to the cabin floor and there is no way to get it out with out breaking it. I wanted to re-seal around the soleplate. I will look for the product that you mentioned. Thanks.

Be sure to mask off the area.

Robert: Regardless of the product that you use, be sure that you mask both sides before applying any of these materials. They are very messy and sticky.
