Hunter 310 Ibiza, Marina Botafoch
Dear Hunter Owners,

I have a hunter 310 lying in Ibiza, Spain. I am planing a sail trip to the Cote Azur and in summer its difficult and expensive to get a place at a Marina.
This is why I want to install a solar system to charge the batteries.

Who has experience with this ? Where is the ideal place to place the solar panels on a hunter 310 ? Can anyone suggest a particular system (or at least the size of the panels and where to put them)Which systems can be suggested ?

Thanks and best regards

Electrical System sizing

Hi George
I wanted to play around with the sizing of my alternator-solar-wind generation and battery bank capacities and developed a spread sheet that lets you focus on the variables and not doing all the amp-hour math.
It allows you to enter your electrical system loads then play with the electrical production and battery bank size and see how charged the batteries remain or how long they will stay above a certain charge level.
I have been offering it to the sailing community for free. If you want a copy e-mail me at
william-roosa@us.army.mil
I've been using the feedback from folks that use it to improve it so I encourage people to ask questions.

George, if your equipment on board includying battery charger is 120V consider the alternative of using a gas powered portable generator like the Honda 2000eu. Besides charging batteries it will run micowave ovens, coffe pots, TVs and perhaps even A/C units under 12K btus. If your boat is wired for the European 240V then perhaps a european compatible petrol generator could be used. At full output they burn under 1/4 gallon an hour.
