Unless this is a secondary light, to an already legal one, I would suggest looking for an anchor light that complies with the COLREGS definition of a navigation light. We are required by law to display navigation lights that meet the minimum standards.

Lot of snake oil salesmen out there willing to steal your money and give you lights that don't meet the legal requirements.

Known legal navigation lights have passed compliance testing and will be stamped/embossed USCG 1nm, 2nm etc. or ABYC A-16...

This is a known compliant navigation light.

How do you turn off a solar light on top of the mast, after dark, when you are not at anchor?

I have thought about this too. for about 2 seconds... the results of my prolonged thought on the subject is, other than the desire to make the light last as long as possible, what would be the need to do so unless you were trying to sneak around in the dark?....

I dont mind the small power consumption of my 12v LED anchor light, but it would be nice to have a photo eye installed so when the sun comes up it goes off automatically.... I have seen some bulbs/fixtures with this feature built in, but im still using "old" technology LED's and with my old memory, i cant remember to shut it off in the morning:D
