We recently purchased a (second-hand) 1991 Hunter 37.5 Legend and have a couple of questions we need help with: 1. Solar Panel - we would like to know how much power the panel supplies, i.e. how many watts and amps per hour. The only information in the documentation that came with the boat mentions that the manufacturer at that time was Sovonics, but when we checked the internet, see that this company no longer exists. (Sovonics, mfg# MA12, EL1179 - HUNA #2623) 2. The onboard stove onboard works with CNG (gas) but (as far as we know) there are no facilities in Canada to refill the tanks. We live on Lake Ontario about an hour from Kingston. Could anyone tell us where the closest place in the U.S. would be to fill the tanks? (State of New York, perhaps..?) Thanks in advance for any help. Nicky (This message also sent to Hunter corp.)

CNG ...

Nicky, I've got a '87 Legend 35 in Kingston and I've done a fair amount of research into finding CNG. We thought about switching to Propane, but that's a little to expensive at the moment. There is a place in Ottawa that will fill it and there should be places in Toronto (I have a list, but did not persue those as the Ottawa location is closer). The place in Ottawa will fill your tank for $40 a fill. Not cheap, but what can you do. My solution is to have two tanks available. That should last the summer for what we do. I've got a new valve, and now I'm tracking down a used steel scuba tank of the appropriate size. Go to Google Maps and enter "stewart fuels ottawa ontario", and it will show you the place and the way. Also, try to avoid putting two different questions in a single post. I almost missed this because it was the second (unrelated) question. PS. I'm a Picton boy! Do you keep your boat at Waupoose Marina?

Try These People

Uni-Solar I believe they are now the owners of the Sovonics range. It may be necessary to telephone them but somebody should be able to tell you the output. You might suggest you are looking to replace a defective unit.

Thankyou!

Thanks so much for the information! Will relay to Nicky upon his return. Yes, boat is at Waupoos Marina - we used to sail out of Picton harbour but find sailing much better out of Waupoos. We are originally from Montreal and have been in the County for 10 yrs now. Thanks also for tip about not putting two unrelated questions together - first time in this forum. What a super website!

Don't waist time with small solar panels

If you want to quickly, reliably recharge your batteries in available light go for a good stuff like mono crystal panels made by kyocera. I have 2 X 130 watts. I will watch tv, use the net and run lights and play music at night and by noon the 3 X 27 group battery bank will be full - 14 volts. And it will stay that way all day , above 13 volts no matter what I'll do. The cheapper panels do not perform well in semi overcasted conditions. The kyocera panels came with instalation kitt including a regulator.

CNG Dealers

Hi Nicky My friend in Sarnia has a 375 and he can get CNG at two places, one in Chatham and one in London. I would try asking at your Marina ,there has to be a gas station that carries it in Kingston. Take care Randy
