Solar Panel Mounting Ideas?

Next project on the Albin is a solar panel or two. I dont have much in
the way of energy needs but don't like to fire up the diesel too often
either. How have any of you mounted your panels? On the stern rail is
looking to be the best bet for me, but i am open to all ideas.....
Thanks.

I have mounted a small (5W) one on coach roof just forward of the sliding
hatch cover.

Despite the small charging current (less than 0.4 amps in optimal
conditions at 15V) it keeps batteries well over 12.5V.

Of course it may not perform do well in December..:)

When I bought the Tern she already had an older panel mounted on
the pushpit. It is just visible in the "cockpit" picture under "Tern"
in the photo section. The panel is mounted on two wooden cleats that
allow it to pivot fore and aft. A light bit of line to the backstay
keeps it in position, though I rarely alter the angle, just never
think of it. There are flexible panels that can be fastened to the
top of the canvas dodger which seems to be a clean installation.
Even though it is an old unit and I'm sure not as efficient as
what I could find today, it provides all the energy needed to start
the engine, lights, radios etc, (although I am not living aboard) and
with no maintenance or servicing other than occasionally washing off
the glass plate.

I had a solar panel mounted at the same location. Worked great (until my dog's claws damaged it). I'm installing another one soon at the same location.

I had a couple of small rigid panels given to me, so I mounted them
on a lower rail that I added to the pushpit, so they could be tilted
to catch the sun, shown in these pictures:

When I installed the windvane I had to move them up to the top rail.

If I were starting from scratch I'd get a flexible panel to fit on
the hatch garage, although this location could be shaded by the sail
cover when moored. I find the panels keep my batteries topped-up at
all times.

I did too. The mounting system is easy and very flexible. I bought two of
the mid-sized units and they fit on the stern pulpit (and are easy to take
on and off).

I used this one from West Marine

You can see them on the stern rail in this photo

Not the best picture I'm afraid. I was shooting at the dodger but you
can see them at least.

I am currently getting a solar array installed on a clients house. The installer says the same thing about the panels, any shading drastically cuts the output of the entire "string" (panels on the same circuit). We are splitting 3 strings into 2 systems each with its own inverter to allow for max production when some of the strings are shaded.
