What do folks think of this? It seems like a good idea. From what I read online, desulphation is where the DC current from the controller is pulsed with a resonant frequency that dissolves the crystals that form on the battery and impede performance. I looked at my boat this weekend and I am going to mount the solar panel somewhere on the back and hook the charger into where my shore power charger output goes to my batteries in the aft port cockpit locker.

Run them separately

I don't follow your theory, but the solar panel output should simply be run directly to the house bank, separate from any other charging sources. It sounds like you are going to intercept the shorepower charger output (12V) wiring and tap into it. If it was my boat, I'd keep 'em separate, even though they may "land" on the same posts.

I need to order one of these...

I've been looking at desulphator/solar chargers for a couple of years now. I need to get one ordered and installed! Thanks for the website, Ray. I've been looking at other brands, but I like the size of the solar panel that comes with this one.

Wait for Details

I decided to order the panel and charge controller from Battery Mart. I will let you all know how it works as my #2 battery is on the edge of needing to be replaced and I am hoping it does resuscitate it a little. I hear the concern about using the connection on the shore power charger, but electrically it makes no difference, so I don't know what it would buy me running an additional wire.
