Hello,
I am considering the purchase of a 1980 Cherubini Hunter 37C. Some of the flooring in the galley and salon is spongy. Therefore, I'd like to replace the flooring in that section of the boat. Anybody ever done this? what's under there? how difficult of a job is it? Advice on the best place to purchase materials?
Thanks

Thank you for the link! This is strange though. One reason I want to replace the floor is because it is spongy in a couple spots (in the Galley and in the companionway towards the nav station). Why would that be the case do you think? It certainly doesn't feel like there is anything under the thin plywood in those spots (the pics in your link shows that there is). It is a 1980, I don't know if that makes any difference.. Perhaps I should just look for a boat that needs less work..

My sole around the galley is as you describe. The plywood is fairly thick and just glued. After years of being wet it gets a spongy feel. The starboard locker bottom and the shelf where the hot water tank sits are one and the same. Any water back there travels over the edge under the galley drawers and out around the galley area. I have not undertaken that project but the pictures I have seen lead me to believe it is mostly cost, not effort. I may just piece the area since most of my salon is carpeted.

I will be doing this same job in the spring. We just bought our '80 37C a couple of weeks ago. A question I have is this: does the flooring run underneath the thresholds to the quarter berth and to the V berth where the pocket door is or does it stop there and pick up on the other side?
