My wife and I just looked at a 69' coronado 15. The guy is not asking a lot for it, but it has some problems with the hull. The starboard side is really soft-up on the side above the boyancy tank. The soft spot runs the lenght of the hull. Is it fixable and/or worth doing? Geoff

No

Dear Geof: Run . . .do not walk, away from this boat. Melody

Run AWAY!

Seriously, what does "not asking a lot" mean? $50? Ok, go for it & expect to put a ton of work & $$ into it. Anything over $100 is probably too much. Unless you either really know what you're doing or are willing to learn more than you ever wanted to know, it's probably not worth it. Sorry! LaDonna

There are others out there

Hi Geoff, I know how you must feel, I've been there myself. Finding a sailboat that fits your needs and wants, but then finding out that you may very well indeed have a structual problem that will cost time and money, along with some Crafstmanship to boot. Now I've been to Las Vegas and I have to say that I know that there are not a whole lot of sailboats to choose from there. If it were me and I was looking for something in the Coranado 15' or about that in size, then I would take the time to search out some other areas for sailing. One in particular that comes to mind is the Delta area of California. It's not that far from you and there are plenty of good choice used boats to be had in the area. Most of which had been mostly fresh water sailed. With a soft deck I'm afraid you are going to be for sure into some structural repair. First probably the stiffening whethter it be plywood or Balsa core, the laminating that with roving or matt to match existing hull thickness and strength. Not to mention that when you remove the existing fiberglass ,bulkheads or stiffeners if the boat is not properly braced at all crucial places you may just end up with the boat wanting to distort and it will loose it's shaped design. Which will put stress on a number of different areas the builder had not planned on. In Short making it an unsafe vessel. So keep your desire of the Coronado and look elsewhere. Hope this helps :) Dave LaPere

Thanks for the imput!

That's what my thoughts have been. Part of me said, 'Maybe I can fix this boat" the other part said, "what are you thinking" thanks. Besides, I already have a nice Catalina 22.
