We have been in Shoreline for a year and I have a question for you guys who go to Cat Harbor: I've been going around the west end like I did from Marina del Rey but am not happy with the angle. I bash into head seas and power to the west end, then it's DDW back, wallowing in the eddy current. I did one decent sail over by powering up to Point Vincente and then setting sail. What I'm thinking is to go around the east end instead. I've done that many times from Dana Point, but not Long Beach. Clearly, it will be longer, but I'm thinking about an hour or so, but well worth it if I can sail more than motor! (Don't EVEN suggest I tack over to the west end. My wife would bite me and the dog nag me if I sailed close-hauled into head seas for six hours...) Rick D.

That's a much better option....

that will be more kindly to you and your crew. Wind and current will be in your favor most of the way, plus you will be familiar with the last section up to Cat Harbor because of your previous experience from Dana Pt. An extra hour of good sailing is a bonus, don't you think? Long Beach to West End is a slog....

Plus you can stop at Little Harbor if it's not crowded

when you go by. Little is one of our favorites on Catalina.
