There has been some shuffling of a couple of important offshore races in SoCal spring 2012.

First, the Border Run is a race from Newport Beach to San Diego. This year, it's been moved to March 10th both for the possibility of better winds and avoid all the late April conflicts. See http://www.theborderrun.org/
There are three courses, one short 70 mile, one long 90 mile and a 14 mile sprint course to Dana Point for everything kind of boat, but including paddleboards, dinghies, beach cats, etc.

Second, the Newport Beach to Ensenada race will be April 27th-29th. It has also changed this year, both to update it and, probably, to address some security concerns. The finish and awards ceremonies will be held outside of Ensenada at the Hotel Coral and Marina which will also be the finish line. There will be charter buses for friends and family to travel from the border and they will be able to see the finish line from the hotel rooms. See their site at:
http://www.nosa.org/newport-to-ensenada

I'm entered in both of these races and urge you to consider doing so also. It's a great way to get your boat shaped up and get some real sailing in. It's a great experience for crew as well. Trailerable boats can come a long way for these races and don't have to power back if you get to have someone bring your rig down to Ensenada or San Diego. In fact, if you just want to have some fun, enter in the Border Run's 14 mile sprint race to Dana Point.

I hope to see some of you on the course!

Rick: That is great. Maybe you can make the Oakland boat show now that it is not on the same weekend!

A Reminder for SoCal Sailors...

...this thread for the Border Run & the Newport beach to Ensenada Race.

There are terrific venues and a ton of people have signed up already, so come play with us! Not heavy lifting and something better than day sails!

Re: A Reminder for SoCal Sailors...

We did the first Border Run as our first race on our boat. (and won our class) and the Newport-Ensenada in '09 on a Jenneau 37. We really want to go again......but likely not this year. Maybe the Border Run, but not sure if we will do it on our boat or friends. I love that these two races have been able to work together so everyone wins..... Looking forward to doing Ensenada again sometime soon.
